The motion picture shows Auguste Lumière managing some workers who are pulling down an old wall at the Lumière factory
One worker presses at the wall with the recoil spindle, another is pushing at it with a mattock. When the wall collapses, there appears a white dust cloud. Then the workers proceed with the demolition of the wall with their mattocks. At the first screenings the film was often projected both ways so that the workers on the screen first pulled the wall down and then put it together again. Thus the backward take appeared which foreshadowed special effects in the cinema.
