Artcore

Classic cinema art teaches us that there is a beginning, a setup, and a happy end. The new generation of directors burns this textbook. Art-core is now coming forward, becoming a trend, in which form is more important than content and mood more important than dialogue. Its main principle is "Don't tell, but show the mood." The film structure is built of dreams, fragments of memories, patches of color and sun glints.

Experimental cinema is experiencing a renaissance today. High resolution cameras coexist with pixilated glitch effects. Artificial intelligence generates shots where images flow like wax. The viewer is no longer fed with a story, he is immersed in an ocean of sensations.

The paradox is that such films draw full houses at festivals and get millions of views online. Tired of the narrative fast food of the mainstream, we present movies with a complex visual language. Art-core is an elite club for authors and viewers with open minds. Its doors are open wider than it seems at the first sight.

This year program includes fiction features and documentaries about masters of art such as "King in the Land of the Princess", "Sun Ray over Paris", "A Dance in Vain" as well as experimental works that expand the boundaries of cinema ("Krishnashthami: The Book of Dry Leaves"), break the fourth wall ("The Ashes of Love", "The Snail"), explore new phenomena of art such as artificial intelligence ("In Algorithm We Trust") and examine the interaction between science and art ("Novak"). The highlight of this program as a counterpoint to experimental cinema is the Vietnamese film "Ky Nam Inn". It is produced in accordance with classical cinematic rules and transforms the everyday to the level of art.
