The first still-image feature in India, inspired by Vyloppilli Sreedhara Menon's 1958 poem
It portrays marginalized lives held in an illegitimate detention centre, using dry leaves and storms as metaphors. An omniscient narrator from an undefined future recalls fragments lost to censorship, inviting others to complete the story. Through static images, memories, and voices, the film reflects on art, poverty, imagination, divinity, and power.
Dr. Abhilash Babu is an Indian filmmaker based in Kerala. He has done a PhD in English Language and Literature and diploma in Film Making. He has directed three feature films. "Aalokam: Ranges of Vision" (2023) is based on five dramatic monologues by Robert Browning. His mocumentary "Dust Art Redrawn in Respiration" premiered at the 2024 IFFK. "Krishnashtami: The Book of Dry Leaves" is his third feature film.
