The global tendency towards shrinking of film theatre traffic, the lack of large-scale eagerly awaited projects ensuring huge box-office returns, which we observe in world and national distribution of many countries, “atomization” of viewer tastes, which is fueled by increasingly complex recommendation algorithms of online platforms – all of it poses the problem of finding alternative ways for the cinema d’auteur to reach the audience with even more urgency. The festivals are helpful in case of films which are easily drowned out in the all-embracing “white noise” of PR campaigns. In the new program “Spotlight” we intend to collect films which in our opinion deserve more light than the amount allocated to them in repertoire grids or slots in on-line showcases. They deserve more attention not only from the professionals but from the audience as well. Those movies deal with important themes and are made by authors courageous in their own way. They deserve our lively discussion. Take a closer look at them and let us talk about them.
