ZHANG YIMOU was born in 1951 in Shaanxi. He is a director, producer, writer and actor, the best-known PRC filmmaker in the West. One of the first students of the Beijing Film Academy, graduating in cinematography in 1982. Began his career as a cinematographer. Ma­king his directorial debut with the film “Red Sorghum” in 1987. His films have won countless awards at the most prestigious international film festivals.
