The Cantonese opera film “A Wedding on the Execution Ground”, based on the large-scale modern Cantonese opera of the same name, is adapted from a true story
It tells the historical story of Zhou Wenyong and Chen Tiejun, members of the CPC, who pretended to be husband and wife for revolutionary activities in 1927, and were arrested after the failure of the Guangzhou Uprising. The two people would rather die than surrender, and dedicated themselves to the revolution with the execution ground as the marriage palace.

MA СHONGJIE was born in Beijing into a family of Peking Opera performers, the nephew of the late Peking Opera master Ma Lianliang. Learned opera as a child, shifted his interest to the film industry after graduating from the directing department of the Beijing Film Academy. He has worked as a director at the China Film Group Corp for more than 30 years, serving as helmsman for around 20 movies, most of which have been inspired by traditional operas or remakes of them.
