Director ‘s version of the film “Andrei Rublyov” which won prize at the Cannes IFF and included in the top-100 best movies compiled by film scholars of the world (1978)
Russia in the 15th century, inter-principality discord, internal strife constitute the historical background which becomes an organic part of the deeply philosophical subtext of the movie. The film uses the example of the Russian painter Andrei Rublyov to examine the eternal problem of the opposition between the artist and the authorities, between the loneliness of a genius and his ability to rise over the crowd, between belief and absence of faith.
