The traditional MIFF program “Masters” will offer Russian premiers of films by many famous screen masters whose works always arouse a lot of interest. Among them we will find the living classic of Singapore Anthony Chen (“Wet Season”), the Mexican patriarch of the tenth muse Arturo Ripstein (“El Diablo entre las Piernas”), new movies by famous Polish directors “Charlatan” by Agnieszka Holland, “Valley of Gods” by Lech Majewski, the provocative and controversial “Siberia” by Abel Ferrara, which was shown in Berlin, a new film by the frequent participant of the MIFF Ferzan Ozpetek “La Dea Fortuna”. The restored copy of “Son of Mongolia” (1936) is bound to cause much excitement. Its author Ilya Trauberg is less famous than his prominent brother Leonid, though Ilya Trauberg could have had a brilliant film career which was cut short by his untimely death at the age of 43. We were very glad to include in the program the movie “Sarmatian Park” by the remarkable Russian director Alexandr Proshkin, who is full of creative energy on the eve of his 80th anniversary, which is evidenced by this movie. Most certainly we could not ignore the 100th anniversary of the great Federico Fellini and intend to screen a restored copy of “Intrevista”, which won the main prize at the Moscow Film Festival in 1987.
