Red Penguins tells a story of capitalism and opportunism run amok - complete with gangsters, strippers and live bears serving beer on a hockey rink in Moscow. Shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the famed Red Army hockey team formed a joint-venture that showed anything was possible in the new Russia. Eccentric marketing whiz, Steve Warshaw, is sent to Russia and tasked to transform the team into the greatest show in Moscow. He takes the viewer on a bizarre journey highlighting a pivotal moment in U.S. Russian relations in a lawless era when oligarchs made their fortunes and multiple murders went unsolved.
Gabe Polsky was born in 1979, USA in the family of Russian immigrants. In childhood he was interested in hockey. Went to Yale University. Realizing that a professional hockey career was not for him, he began producing movies together with his brother. Polsky wrote, directed and produced «Red Army», a documentary film which chronicles the epic rise of the Soviet Union hockey team during the Cold War which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. It was selected as the Opening Ceremony film of the 2014 Moscow International Film Festival. In 2018 Polsky completed the documentary «In Search of Greatness» which features original interviews with sports-world legends.
