Director: GIULIANO FRATINI
During the filming of the documentary film “The Gift”, Giuliano Fratini meets the master Marlen Khutsiev, who agrees to speak about Tarkovsky. But before being asked any questions, as a sign of thanks to his Italian guests, he wants to talk about Italy and in particular about Fellini, about the friendship they forged at the Moscow Festival in 1963. Back then the Italian master asked to meet him, the little Georgian who had problems with the regime. This small film is a tribute to the Italian genius but also to the Georgian master.
Giuliano Fratini was born on September 27th 1972 in Tivoli (Rome). Graduated at DAMS Roma Tre University with a thesis on Marlen Khutsiev's Infinitas. He won Special Jury Prize @ FRANZ KAFKA ITALY PRIZE ® with his first novel, Three Days. He approached cinema writing first version of Sharunas Bartas’ Peace To Us In Our Dreams (Long Weekend, 2013) script. Il Dono (Dar/The Gift, 2019) is his first movie, a documentary about Andrei Tarkovsky stay in San Gregorio da Sassola, a small village near Rome. A Georgian Toast (2020) is his second work.
