ODESSA. CITY OF CINEMA

The idea to make this program occurred to me following the almost simultaneous deaths of Kira Muratova and Stanislav Govorukhin. I immediately recalled that I met Kira Georgievna (at the Odessa Film Studio) and Stanislav Sergeevich (at the festival “Golden Duke”) in Odessa, where I only recently visited the studio museum of Vera Kholodnaya, the centenary of whose death we just marked. Just like Yalta, Odessa is the cradle of national cinema and we must remember those who turned this city into a cinema capital. In the program “Odessa. City of Cinema” we will screen national films “Life for Life” by Evgeny Bauer with Vera Kholodnaya (produced by Alexander Khanzhonkov), “The Vertical” by Boris Durov and Stanislav Govorukhin with Vladimir Vysotsky, kira Muratova’s “Asthenic Syndrome” and one of my favorite movies “War-Time Romance” by the native of Odessa Pyotr Todorovsky, which was included into the plan of the Odessa studio at a whim of Goskino of the USSR. The demise of Marlen Martynovich Khutsiyev prompted us to include “Spring in Zarechnaya Street” in the program.
