Герой фильма – армянский поэт и философ Дживани, родившийся в том же самом населенном армянами Ахалкалакском районе Грузии, что и режиссер Хачатрян, только на столетие раньше. В фильме показано, как из камня рождается памятник великому поэту, который везут на его родину, в село Карцах. Путешествие каменной статуи по Армении становится поводом для поэтического осмысления природы, деревенского и городского быта. Это портрет современной Армении, как бы увиденной глазами Дживани.
